The 2023 sustainability report highlights milestones, key insights and commitment to strategic action across Food, Planet, and People & Communities
TORONTO, August 15, 2024 – Today, Restaurant Brands International Inc. (“RBI”) (TSX: QSR) (NYSE: QSR) (TSX: QSP) released its fourth annual Restaurant Brands for Good report, underscoring the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and giving back to the communities it serves. The 2023 report highlights the milestones and goals of RBI and its iconic brands – Tim Hortons, Burger King, Popeyes, and Firehouse Subs – under the three pillars of its Restaurant Brands for Good framework: Food, Planet, and People & Communities.
“Sustainability is key to our big dream of building the most loved restaurant brands in the world,” says Josh Kobza, Chief Executive Officer, Restaurant Brands International. “We're proud of the strides we've made, but we know there's still much to do. The collective efforts of our employees, guests, suppliers, partners, franchisees and their teams have been instrumental to our progress, and we’re excited to continue this important journey together.”
In 2023, the company continued to advance its sustainability initiatives across key areas, including greenhouse gas accounting methodology, food waste, beef-related emissions, sourcing electricity from renewable energy, and fibre-based packaging. RBI also set a new target to reduce virgin plastics content in guest-facing, single-use packaging and moved up its timeline to convert to 100% cage-free eggs in Canada by 2028.
RBI’s inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI) for the second consecutive year reflects its ongoing commitment to drive even further progress and transparency in its corporate sustainability strategy. The index represents the top 20% of the largest 600 North American companies across a variety of economic, environmental, social, and governance dimensions.
“We’re excited to continue driving progress on our sustainability journey,” says Paul Yang, Head of Global Sustainability, Restaurant Brands International. “By applying the insights we’ve gained from our initiatives, we’re dedicated to building a responsible business that not only makes a positive impact on our guests but also contributes to our planet and communities that surround us.”
